Finishing 6th on stage 5 of the 2023 Tour de Suisse and sitting 6th overall in the general classification at 1:16, Wilco Kelderman remains in the mix and Jumbo-Visma sports director, Marc Reef has been impressed.
"Wilco showed a super high level. Every day, he demonstrates why he is among the best climbers," Reef told the official Jumbo-Visma website following the conclusion to a dramatic day of racing that saw Juan Ayuso take the stage and Mattias Skjelmose return the race leader.
"The plan was to have someone with us in the breakaway to help Wilco on the final climb. Wout did a good job for him on the last climb, so that little plan worked out," Reef concludes.
With stage 6 seemingly being more of a day for Wout van Aert, it's likely the majority of Jumbo-Visma's focus will be on taking the stage win. Nevertheless, with Kelderman set to ride in a supporting role for Jonas Vingegaard at the Tour de France, his declaration of good legs can only be a positive for the team.
