It might be the most anyone has ever payed for a bike. But can that person be blamed? The bike Tadej Pogacar rode to several stage wins at the 2025 Tour de France, almost one-of-a-kind in terms of looks but certainly unique in terms of its history, has been sold by a whopping €163.430 euros!
This is no ordinary bike. it is a Colnago Y1Rs bike, the brand's aero version, which has been ridden throughout the Tour de France by most of its riders virtually everyday. However Pogacar's was singled out due to its pain job, or rather, the lack of a paint job. In order to save some more extra grams, his own bike was stripped of paint, and featured only minimal details due to the world title he had obtained the previous season in Zurich. This is a bike he rode to extreme success, namely winning the mountain time trial in Peyragudes, and throughout most of the race's mountain stages in which he held his own against Tadej Pogacar, and beat climbing records including the Mont Ventoux which was tackled in 54 minutes and 30 seconds.
Nowadays, even on the mountain stages the climbers often prefer to use aero bikes and skinsuits, due to the speeds and the slight gains that exist even at lower speeds. From 30Km/h onwards the benefits of aero equipment are significant, specially if riders are not on the wheel of anyone - a common occurrence on the decisive days. Hence, this bike had a purpose, and it was served perfectly. Now, the bike was put for sale in an auction by Sothesby.
This Thursday, the auction had already reached a very high value, but this would double and go even further on its final hours. The highest and winning bid was of €163.430 euros. An incredible value, payed for a bike that is estimated to be worth around €15.000 - an already very high value, due to all the details added to the World Champion's setup, looking to improve in every possible way.
