Elisa Longo Borghini has put up a solid effort in the
Giro d'Italia Donne, although she has yet to reach the podium. In the sixth stage of the tour, she could not beat Dutch rider
Marianne Vos, in the sprint and crossed the finish line in 9th position.
“I was really looking forward to this stage. The final climb in Bergamo is a magical climb and the final climb of Lombardia, a race that I would love to see soon in the women’s schedule. I hope one day to do this race and climb this finale again. And maybe next time dropping the other riders and not having Vos with me,” said Borghini.
“I like to race aggressive and give a show for the fans. That’s my way to race,” said Longo Borghini, “ I did my best and we have to accept the results and look forward. Of course, I am disappointed because I really wanted to win the stage today. The Giro is not finished, so let’s see what we can get in the last stages. I am happy, my Giro has been good so far with only one bad day in the heat.”
She won the Women’s Tour a few weeks ago and Paris-Roubaix Femmes in April. Even though she has not won any stage, she holds the fourth position in GC, 5 minutes behind overall leader Annemiek van Vleuten.
