Edward Theuns holds on for breakaway win in thrilling finale at Bredene Koksijde Classic 2025

After a frantic tug of war between breakaway and peloton at the 2025 edition of the Bredene Koksijde Classic, it was eventually Edward Theuns of Lidl-Trek who prevailed to take the win from the break ahead of Luke Lamperti and Nils Eekhoff.

Heading into the final 50km of the day, a strong 15-rider group was dangling just under a minute clear of the first part of the peloton. Among the riders in the lead group were notable names such as Luke Lamperti, Edward Theuns, Nils Eekhoff, Ethan Vernon and Alec Segaert among others. Because of the lead group were working incredibly well together, the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team led peloton were struggling to bring the gap back. As such, as the race entered the finishing circuit at just over 30km to go, the lead group's advantage was still around 45 seconds.

By 20km to go, the bunch had begun to make inroads though, cutting the deficit to 37 seconds. As the final lap began at around 11km to go though, the win was still very much in the balance as the break maintained a 20+ second gap. The break soon began to finally start infighting however, but still, they entered the final 3km 8 seconds clear. At 1km to go, just 5 seconds separated the two groups and in a thrilling finale, the break were about to be caught as the sprints were launched, but from the break it was ultimately Edward Theuns that took the win ahead of Luke Lamperti and Nils Eekhoff.
