Davide Ballerini abandons the Giro d'Italia leaving Soudal - Quick-Step with just 2 riders left

Davide Ballerini is the latest rider to announce their abandonment of the 2023 Giro d'Italia as illness and sickness continues to destroy the peloton.

Soudal - Quick-Step have been effected more than most by this Giro d'Italia of survival. Due to Ballerini's abandon they now have just two riders remaining at the race. Only Ilan van Wilder and Pieter Serry are left of the team that took to the start line of the race over two weeks ago.

In a post on the official Twitter account of Soudal - Quick-Step the news was revealed earlier this morning. "Due to illness, Davide Ballerini will not take to the start of today’s Giro d'Italia stage 16. We wish Davide a speedy recovery!"
