David Dekker is, after several weeks of rumours, given as a certain to be joining Arkéa Samsic, as the Dutch sprinter moves on from his time at Jumbo-Visma and into a new adventure.
The confirmation was given by Wielerflits who believe a contract is set to be signed soon. Dekker made his debut with the Dutch team in 2021 after some years at continental level where he's shown to be an uprising sprinter, and he immediately impressed with two second places and the victory at the points classification at the UAE Tour, part of the World Tour calendar.
The future seemed incredibly bright for the now 24-year old, however his time with the Dutch team did not improve from there on. Whilst in 2021 he was still given some more opportunities to show his level, he couldn't match his early performances, and in 2022 he did not manage to be competitive at World Tour level - with only a small set of minor results in minor races to show for.
At the Vuelta a Burgos Dekker crashed hard in the bunch sprint where the team finished a one-two, and has since remained at the same level. His move to Arkéa Samsic does not hint at a downgrade as the French team is set to promote to World Tour level, where Dekker will find several other sprinters, who can help him raise his level, or where the Dutchman can find a place within the team's leadout to the likes of Hugo Hofstetter, Nacer Bouhanni and Dan McLay.
