Stefan Kung set the fastest time in the ITT of Stage 5 of Volta ao Algarve. The Groupama-FDJ team rider won the last stage of the race whilst Daniel Martínez took the overall classification by surprise.
Mathias Vacek of Trek-Segafredo set the best time of the time trial for a while only to be beaten later by Nils Politt of Bora-hansgrohe. When there wasn't any rider left to start, time trialist specialist Stefan Kung of Groupama-FDJ was the one with the best time in the finish line.
The other Time Trial specialist and a big favourite for winning the stage and GC Filippo Ganna was a negative surprise since he finished, a contrast to his teammate Daniel Martinez who while not being a specialist did an amazing result, being able to win the overall classification of the race in a very surprising way.
Küng won the time-trial ahead of Rémi Cavagna and Filippo Ganna, whilst Tom Pidcock could not defend his lead. Martínez won the overall classification ahead of his teammate Ganna and Ilan van Wilder.
Oscar Onley of Team DSM was the best rider of the Youth classification. The point's classification was won by Magnus Cort Nielsen of EF Education-EasyPost, Kasper Asgreen (Soudal-Quick-Step) conquered the mountain's classification, and INEOS Grenadiers was the best team of the Teams Classification.
