Daniel Martínez has had a terrific 2022 until the second half of the season where he suffered from fatigue, in 2023 he will look to have a more focused spring with several goals and will likely be one of the headliners as he leads INEOS Grenadiers.
In 2022 Martínez finished on the podium of the Volta ao Algarve and Paris-Nice, and won the Colombian time-trial national championships and Itzulia Basque Country, as well as finishing on the Top5 of both Flèche Wallone and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. This season he's replicating the same calendar with the aim of bringing in more high-level victories. The Colombian has had a modest start to the season in South America, settling with a lower GC position as he helped Filippo Ganna at the Vuelta a San Juan, and finished runner-up in the nationals road race.
Now he will mimic last year's calendar, with the exception of the GP de Denain as the Tour de France won't be featuring the cobblestones of northern France. As is Egan Bernal, Martínez is now travelling to Europe and will start his campaign at the Volta ao Algarve, followed by Paris-Nice.
After a training period he will then attempt to defend his title at Itzulia Basque Country before aiming at the Ardennes classics. He is set to race all three, with particular attention to Flèche Wallone and Liège-Bastogne-Liège where he finished fifth and fourth in 2022. In the summer Martínez should lead INEOS at the Tour de France alongside Carlos Rodríguez and, if in good form, Egan Bernal.
