Daniel Martínez finished eleventh in the Criterium du Dauphiné time trial, 1 minute and 7 seconds behind the winner Mikkel Bjerg and 55 seconds behind Jonas Vingegaard. He finished with a time trial similar to that of specialists in the specialty such as Nelson Oliveira and Jonathan Castroviejo and took some time in the general classification from other favorites such as Enric Mas or Mikel Landa.
After the time trial, the INEOS Grenadiers rider admitted that he had started very strongly, but that in the end he had run out of strength, which had prevented a better performance. He assured that it is in the mountains that his real form will be seen:
"In the end I ran out of strength, I thought the time trial would have been worse, but it was decent. I thought it was a pretty good course, I think with good legs I could have done better, but it is what it is. We're going day by day, we'll see how we are in the mountains".
