Cristian Scaroni takes debut pro win at opening day of Adriatica Ionica Race

The opening day of the Adriatica Ionica Race has already seen some gaps built, and Cristian Scaroni has taken his first win as a professional. The 24-year old rider was under contract with Gazprom - Rusvelo but was left without a contract early in the year. He's been racing for the Italian national team in some events, and has made the most out of it.

The opening stage into Monfalcone was hilly and in the climbs late in the stage the difference was made, as a small group went up the road and had the chance to fight for the stage win. Scaroni beat Filippo Zana and Raúl García Pierna at the finish, becoming the first leader of the race.
