After starting his season with a victory at the Classic Var, Lenny Martinez backed up that result with a brilliant result at O Gran Camiño, as he won the youth classification and finished second in the general classification behind Jonas Vingegaard, who won three of the four stages on his way to the overall victory.
Martinez leapt ahead of Cian Uijtdebroeks, Jefferson Cepeda and Egan Bernal in the general classification, taking him from fifth to second overall on the final stage to Tui on Monte Aloia, as he beat all of them by over thirty seconds.
Speaking after the race, Martinez commented on his second place finish and his hopes to do it again in the future, as he said that “coming second between Egan and Jonas, two immense champions, is a source of pride. It’s the first time that I'm directly in Jonas’ wheel when he attacks and that I battle with him to win the stage. It’s the first time, but it’s not the last”.
