The World Championships are getting increasingly closer and some teams are starting to confirm their lineups for Wollongong, and Colombia has done so with
Sergio Higuita and
Nairo Quintana leading the way.
Higuita is likely the leader taking into consideration the hilly route and flat finale in Wollongong, which suit the 25-year old well. With several wins this year, including at the Volta a Catalunya, Tour de Pologne and Tour de Romandie. Nairo Quintana will not have as much power to create the difference, however his confirmation hints that he will soon return to competition after leaving the Vuelta a Espana to prepare his defense over the Tour de France sanctions.
The circuit will be one for the puncheurs and climbers, however there will not be extensive support for the two main leaders despite Colombia's great depth in climbers. Harold Tejada and Rodrigo Contreras are expected to be the best support out of the six-rider team, with Juan Sebastián Molano and Wilson Peña rounding out the team.
As for the women's race Colombia will have four riders feature in Diana Peñuela, Lina Hernández, Paula Patiño and Natalia Villegas.
