Jonas Vingegaard has had an amazing 2022 season and will be looking to repeat the same feats in the coming year. For that, he will need to face more competition which he talks about, and also hope for performances such as the ones he had this summer.
"Ayuso surprised me the most of all the riders. I thought he was strong in the spring, then he rode very well in the Vuelta as well," Vingegaard recently said in an interview related to his participation in the Saitama Criterium in Japan, where he took part in after his presence in Singapore. "Next year I will really have to take into account.”
The Spaniard finished third at the Vuelta a Espana as a 19-year old and is following similar footsteps to those of Tadej Pogacar. Although he has said to he will be eyeing the Vuelta a Espana once again next year, on his debut Pogacar took the win at the Tour de France, and the Jumbo-Visma rider is aware that such surprises are quite possible with young riders such as Ayuso and Remco Evenepoel coming up the ranks.
He commented aswell on his Tour de France, and what he considered to be his best day of the season. “My best day this year was on the Col du Granon. Looking back now, that was my best day on a bike ever," he answered, in reference to the 11th stage where he dropped Tadej Pogacar to ride into the yellow jersey which he would never again leave.
