Carlos Verona is not shining too much in the Giro d'Italia. The only breakaway in which he filtered through and was strong was the one on stage 16, precisely the only one that so far the favorites managed to hunt down. Now, before his last chance, he says he has the strength and hopes to try in the stage of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo:
"We are reaching these last stages with sunshine, the team motivated with something to fight for, with Fernando Gaviria in the sprint and in the mountain stages we have Einer Rubio close to the top 10. We have looked for my chances in the breakaway and Einer's. I'm fine. I'm fine, yesterday I made a mistake at the start, sometimes it's difficult to choose the good breakaway and yesterday because I wanted too much I was left with nothing. Today is another day, we'll see if the energy I saved yesterday can be put to better use today".
He was asked if it was a good day for the breakaway: "You never know, there's a lot of marking among the general classification. Everyone wants to try to save people for the end, it depends on how it goes. If in the end a big group goes, they can ride."
"It depends on who is inside, if there is someone in the general classification like Pinot yesterday, you can't take so much time and Monte Bondone can happen and the breakaway can't make it, but well, you never know, every day is different, a rider can change it, we'll have to give the maximum in this last mountain stage of the Giro."
