Storm Ingebrigtsen of
Team Coop - Repsol has thrillingly held off the likes of
Matthew Brennan,
Tibor del Grosso and
Alexander Kristoff to take the win on stage 1 of the 2025
Tour of Norway.
Six riders got themselves up the road early and into the day's breakaway. As you might expect, the majority of the attackers were Norwegian too, with the home nation riders totalling five of the six leaders. Despite the peloton not really letting the break build up a big advantage, heading into the final 25km they still led by 1:31.
As the rain turned torrential into the final 10km, the leaders, now down to just 4 riders, were holding on to a 45 second advantage over the bunch. Because of the weather and in particular the rain, the race was completely exploded behind the break, meaning that when the 'peloton' caught the majority of the attackers inside the final 2km, there were hardly any riders left in the mix to help chase down the last remaining rider Storm Ingebrigtsen and the Norwegian managed to hold on all the way to the line.
