Biniam Girmay has had an underwhelming spring, but it has taken a turn for the worst yesterday at the
Tour of Flanders. The
Intermarché-Circus-Wanty leader
was caught up in a crash where he violently went down. The team has confirmed that he suffered a concussion.
As the peloton fought for position before the Kanarieberg, an apparent touch of wheels at high speed between Girmay and Matej Mohoric saw both coming down, with Girmay rolling several times through the ground as other riders couldn't avoid a collision. The tough incident has caused no fractures, but after being accessed at a local hospital the Eritrean has been diagnosed with a concussion. It is uncertain if he will be able to take part in Paris-Roubaix this coming weekend.
