Benoît Cosnefroy's troubled 2025 season would not see a happy end. The Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale rider has been sidelined since mid-June, when he retired from the first stage of the Tour de Suisse due to a crash, suffering a knee injury that forced him to miss the Tour de France. That was a second blow to his knee this year after a surgery in January.
Cosnefroy's season therefore didn't begin until the end of April at the Tour de Romandie. Since then, the 29-year-old rider competed in 13 days of racing before he was forced to stop again. And Cosnefroy won't add any more, as his team confirmed to Ouest-France that he will not race again between now and the end of the year.
Former winner of GP de Quebec and Bretagne Classic, Cosnefroy could only dream of his best years in 2025.
The Tour de Suisse participation in June might as well turn out to be Cosnefroy's final professional start in the jersey of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale, the team where he grew to be one of the world's best puncheurs and where he spent 9 seasons - his whole professional career until this moment. Regarding his future, Team Picnic PostNL seems to be Cosnefroy's most likely destination for years to come.
