Damiano Caruso returns as a leader of
Bahrain - Victorious for fourth consecutive edition of
Tour de Romandie. Last year the Italian was particularly successful with third place overall after six days of racing.
This year, Tour de Romandie will feature two mountain finishes, one more compared to 2023, but Les Marécottes and Leysin will be kinder to the riders than Thyon 2000. Additionally, the route consists of a 15km individual time trial and technical 2km prologue.
So far, it's been a rather uneventful year for 36-year-old Caruso who was fourth overall at Giro d'Italia last year, coming straight off the Tour de Romandie podium. The Italian was 41st at Tirreno-Adriatico and 19th at Volta a Catalunya in March, indicating improving form. It remains to be seen what the shape of the experienced climber will look like after a month-long pause from racing.
