Astana Qazaqstan Team sign Christian Scaroni with immediate effect

Yesterday the news that the Italian rider Christian Scaroni had hoped for for several months were made public, as five months later he once again has a pro contract and has additionally signed his first with a World Tour team.

Scaroni was one of the many Italians who raced for Gazprom - Rusvelo, until the full-scale invasion of Ukraine saw all Russian and Belarusian teams stripped of their UCI license. Several of his compatriots in the team have found a new home, and Scaroni was the latest as Astana Qazaqstan announced yesterday the signing which is set to take place until the end of 2022.

The 24-year old has developed as a quality puncheur over the last few years, and it was over the last few months as he raced with the Italian national team often that he managed to take the best results of his career, winning both first and final stage of the recent Adriatica Ionica Race. Scaroni will already be put to use as he is set to make his debut at the Tour de Pologne this weekend, a race that will suit his attributes as a rider who likes the hilly terrain.

“After a tough period in my career I finally got a chance to come back and to sign a contract with a big team. No one of us could imagine finding ourselves in a position without a contract and a team in the full season and, of course, it impacted heavily," Scaroni shared in a press release. "...And now, I am super happy I got a chance to sign this contract with Astana Qazaqstan Team, it is an emotional and important moment for me. Surely, I will try to pay off the trust which the team provided to me. I am ready to give my best to help the team to reach its goals in any race I will have a chance to ride," he concluded.
