Astana confirm signing of Cees Bol joining Mark Cavendish

The transfer had been in the making for over a month together with Mark Cavendish and today it has been revealed. Cees Bol is the most recent signing for Astana Qazaqstan Team.

Bol was set to join B&B Hotels-KTM. The move had been agreed on, as was the case with the Manxman, but financial issues brought all the plans down and the team has folded ahead of 2023. Both riders were seeking a team, and as Astana terminated the contract of Miguel Ángel López, there was budget for both riders to join in.

Bol is likely to be Cavendish's main leadout man in the Kazakh team which noticeably lacks the resources for the flat stages. Bol will likely have chances of his own throughout the year but as the team switches it's attentions to the sprints, it looks to build a strong block to chase results.

Although he's had a difficult 2022 Bol is a stage winner in races such as Paris-Nice, Tour of California and most recently the Tour of Britain where he took his sole win of last season.
