Ashleigh Moolman: "I felt very strong all day, this is my first WorldTour stage win, so this victory is very special for me"

Ashleigh Moolman delivered an impressive performance in the queen stage of Tour of Romandie. She beat Annemiek van Vleuten on the final climb and secured the victory with 10 seconds lead. It is her first WorldTour stage win.

"I felt very strong all day, this is my first WorldTour stage win, so this victory is very special for me," she said. She continues, “I immediately felt I had good legs. But since it's late in the season, it's always a matter of waiting to see where everyone stands. When we went up the second last climb, I was convinced I was strong. My teammates did a great job putting constant pressure on the rest.”

She was not part of the leading group, but once they were caught, she took her chances, and it eventually worked in her favour. “On the first climb, Demi Vollering and Anna Shackley took turns attacking, then Marlen Reusser mounted an attack on the flat section before the last two climbs. It was the perfect situation. When we caught back Marlen Reusser's group, I started accelerating and slowing down to thin out the group,”

Her victory has put her in the lead in the General classification, and with only one stage left, it is not out of the question for her to win the tour. “Obviously, we just want to win the Tour de Romandie now. We are only four riders here, but still we are with a very strong group. We will give everything tomorrow to win the general classification," concluded Moolman.
