Ashleigh Moolman was able to defend her leader’s jersey in the third and final stage of Tour de Romandie Féminin. She finished in 24th position with the peloton and took the overall victory with 30 seconds lead.
It was also her last race with Team SD Worx as she will ride for AG Insurance - NXTG Team from next year onwards. "This is a fantastic way to end my period with Team SD Worx," said Moolman. "Winning the queen stage yesterday and the final classification today. Our team consisted of only four riders, but we showed super strength here. They surrounded me all day, and thanks to them, I felt very calm and relaxed today in the leader's jersey. I felt like the team had everything under control. For me, it's very special. I have been cycling at the highest level for 13 years, but this is my first victory at WorldTour level."
She was contemplating retirement but ultimately decided against it, and it turns out her decision was right. "This win proves once again that it was a good decision to continue next year. After all, I am finishing this season at a very high level. After a good World Championships where I was among the five strongest on the climb, I am now proving I can win at WorldTour level too,” concluded Moolman.
