The Tour de Hongrie has finished today with a stellar victory from Juan Sebastián Molano in an explosive cobbled hilltop finish. UAE Team Emirates - XRG has taken another win after a strong collective work in the finale.
The final stage of the race would go to Esztergom and be a rather hilly day, one that would likely end up for the sprinters but not without it's difficulties beforehand. The day's breakaway was formed by Siebe Deweirdt, Owen Geleijn, Baptiste Huyet, Jakub Otruba, Luca Colnaghi, Tord Wikander and Zeteny Szijarto.
The group proved to be harder to capture than what most would've expected, as Geleijn and Otruba went off the front with 15 kilometers to go and held a sizeable gap right into the closing kilometers of the stage. This happened only on the final kilometer in a narrow cobbled street that led the peloton towards the hilltop finish.
Alessandro Covi set a hellish pace up the cobbled finish which completely split the peloton to bits. Danny van Poppel launched his sprint into the finish straight first but was beaten by Juan Sebastián Molano who put in a stunning performance to win the difficult finale. Van Poppel was second and Tim Torn Teutenberg rode to third on the day.
