Annemiek Van Vleuten to lead Team Movistar in Giro d'Italia Donne

Team Movistar has announced teams for the upcoming Giro d'Italia Donne, with two-time Giro winner Annemiek Van Vleuten leading the women's team in Italy.

Van Vleuten has taken four wins so far in 2022, including the Setmana Valenciana, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, and a solo victory at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. She hasn't raced since winning the Liège-Bastogne-Liège event in April, after fracturing her wrist in a training incident a few days later. She was supposed to compete in the Dutch nationals last weekend, but she opted out to concentrate only on the Giro and Tour de France femmes.

Now, that focus will be put to the test. She will be joined by Paula Patio and Aude Biannic, Emma Norsgaard who took a victory in Le Samyn and took the third position in GC at the RideLondon Classique, and successfully defended her Danish time trial title will also be joining the squad. Arlenis Sierra will provide valuable assistance on the mountain stages while still competing for the win on the sprint-focused stages aswell as helping Norsgaard.
