Things are looking good for
Annemiek van Vleuten after the fourth stage of the
Tour de France Femmes. Despite having mechanical failure, she finished in 13th position.
"I am relieved that I survived," she told NOS. She was having stomach problems since the first stage of the tour, but things are improving, "I rode really well, It was two days of torture, and I'm still not quite the same, but I was racing well," said Van Vleuten.
She had a flat tyre at the most crucial time, but luckily her teammate Emma Norsgard donated her bike to Van Vleuten. "Just before the end of the last stretch, I had a flat tyre. Luckily Emma was riding behind me. If I hadn't gotten her bike. I had to go in pursuit. I couldn't have done that yesterday, but I did today," said Van Vleuten.
She also expressed her displeasure with the gravel lane. "Actually, this does not belong in a stage race. Nice for the winner, but not for the GC riders. I like the Strade Bianche as a one-day race, but not in a stage race," concluded Van Vleuten. She currently holds 8th position in GC, 1 minute and 14 seconds behind overall leader Marianne Vos.
