Juan Sebastián Molano has experienced his best season in the WorldTour since joining UAE Team Emirates in 2019. Throughout 2023, Molano demonstrated an unwavering determination to overcome challenges, coming back stronger in the last competitions of the year, including his successful participation in La Vuelta a Espana, where he conquered a stage.
This season marked Molano's fourth appearance in the elite of professional cycling with the Emirati team. Despite suffering a heavy crash in Belgium on March 24, which kept him out of competition for several months, the 28-year-old Colombian cyclist managed to make 2023 his most successful year in the WorldTour.
Before his unfortunate crash, Molano had scored two important victories in the UAE Tour and the Grand Prix de Denain. Just a week after his win in Belgium, he suffered a concussion that forced him to take a break, affecting his plans for an even better season.
However, after several weeks out of competition, Molano made a triumphant return at the Vuelta a Burgos, where he demonstrated his great physical condition and his ability to overcome adversity. But it was at the Vuelta a España where he achieved one of the most important goals of the year by taking his second victory in a Grand Tour.
Molano's winning streak continued at the Tour of Guangxi, where he took his fifth victory of the season in 2023. On this occasion, he defeated one of today's best sprinters, Olav Kooij. Thanks to this victory, the Colombian rider reached a total of 14 conquests with UAE Team Emirates since his arrival in 2019.
