There was bad news at the start of stage 6 of the 2025 Giro
d’Italia, as VF Group – Bardiani-CSF-Faizane confirmed that Alessandro
Pinarello will not start today’s stage from Potenza to Naples.
The young Italian was involved in a crash with Filippo Magli
with around 50 kilometres to go during yesterday’s stage 5, which was won by
Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek. Despite managing to finish the stage, further
medical checks have revealed a scaphoid fracture in his left hand.
As a result, Pinarello has been forced to abandon the race
and will now begin a period of rest and rehabilitation. His withdrawal is a
blow for Bardiani, who lose one of their key young talents early in the race.
The team will now continue the Giro one rider down as the peloton heads into
the second weekend of racing.
