Aleksandr Vlasov drops out of Tour of the Alps with Liège-Bastogne-Liège in mind

Aleksandr Vlasov has been rather distant from the form he's shown last season, but he is building up to it. The Giro d'Italia is getting closer each day and so is Liège-Bastogne-Liège. So as to have an ideal preparation for the Belgian monument, the Russian climber abandoned the Tour of the Alps this morning.

Vlasov will not start the final stage of the Italian race where several of the Giro contenders are currently testing their form. Vlasov was sitting in 7th place in the overall classification after four days of racing, having struggled and lost time in the opening days but then showing good form on stage 3 where he finished second on the day, leading in the GC group as teammate Lennard Kämna took the win.

Tao Geoghegan Hart remains in the lead of the race into the final day, with Kämna sitting in sixth place now carrying the team's GC ambitions. The 26-year old is travelling to Belgium where this Sunday he will co-lead BORA - hansgrohe in the final spring classic.
