Alejandro Valverde unveils Juan Ayuso as Spain's leader for the 2025 World Championships in Rwanda

Yesterday it was confirmed what was an open secret, that Alejandro Valverde will be the next Spanish cycling coach. First it was the president of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, who confirmed it, and later he himself explained that it had taken so long to announce the agreement "because of frictions" in order to continue being ambassador of Movistar Team.

Thus, from Relevo confirmed that the Spaniard will be made official sooner rather than later by the Spanish Cycling Federation and that he is already working on traveling to Rwanda to study the World Cup to be held between 21 and 28 September 2025.

It is an incredibly challenging World Championships in which Tadej Pogacar will be favourite to repeat rainbow jersey, although Jonas Vingegaard may challenge for the jersey for the first time. In Marca, Valverde, who assured that his status as ambassador of Movistar will not influence him when making decisions about which riders to take, hinted that he will take the whole Spanish cycling team to Africa in search of a medal and that Juan Ayuso should be the theoretical leader:

"Maybe Ayuso, who is in the plans. Also Enric Mas, Carlos Rodríguez, Mikel Landa.... From here to there there is a lot and the season is very long. Even if they are the most representative riders they have to arrive well."
