Thibau Nys will not take part in the World Cup Maasmechelen this Saturday. According to Sporza, the Belgian and European champion is unwell and has decided not to take any risks ahead of next week’s Cyclocross World Championships.

Nys is coming off a remarkable performance at the World Cup Benidorm, where he claimed victory, beating top competitors such as Wout van Aert, who finished fourth.

This winter has been a breakout season for Nys, as he has added both the Belgian and European titles to his list of accomplishments. His decision to prioritise recovery reflects his focus on maintaining top form for the upcoming World Championships.

Nys will be hoping to make a quick recovery, as he appears to be the leading contender to stop Mathieu van der Poel from achieving a record equalling seventh cyclocross rainbow jersey. Although van der Poel is the huge favourite, Nys will be still hoping to pick up the pieces if the Dutchman falters.
