One of the most exciting news this year is the return to competition of
Alejandro Valverde. The Murcian cyclist, who previously retired, surprised everyone by confirming his participation in the 2023 Gravel World Championships. Valverde has been competing in two UCI Gravel World Series events this year, La Indomable and the Hutchinson Ranxo Gravel, achieving victories with great authority and demonstrating that he still maintains an elite level.
In addition to Alejandro Valverde, the Spanish National Team will be represented by
Iván García Cortina, Movistar Team rider and lover of this type of races, who comes from an outstanding 11th place in the recently held European Road Championships.
The Spanish team at the World Gravel Championships will be made up of riders who had previously qualified for the event in the elite category. The full list of riders includes Sergio Mantecón, Alberto Losada, Ferrán Robert, Darío Gadeo, José María Sánchez, Eduardo Talavera, Julen Zubero and Irene Méndez. In addition, three cyclists have received wild cards to participate: Enrique Morcillo, an outstanding long-distance MTB rider; Marta Romeu, a Laboral Kutxa rider who finished 14th in last year's Worlds; and Guayente Minchot, a specialist in Gravel competitions.
