Daniel Martinez shocked everybody with his time trial performance. The Colombian of INEOS-Grenadiers made a very good time trial result finishing 4th at the stage just 6 seconds behind his teammate and big favorite Filippo Ganna. With this, he managed to win the general classification of Volta ao Algarve, 2 seconds ahead of Ganna.
"This morning everyone in the team still thought Filippo (Ganna, ed.) was the top favorite to win the classification. Everyone thought Ganna was the top favorite", Martinez said in the post-race interview.

Daniel Martinez was doing a solid performance in Volta ao Algarve despite being a bit overshadowed by the performances of his teammates Tom Pidcock and Filippo Ganna. The Colombian was always with the firsts, and he saved his best for the last stage, being the best non-specialist time trial rider, ahead of a lot of specialists.
"My feeling did get better every day, Still, it's a surprise for me. A time trial like this is normally always for Filippo. But today… I'm so surprised.", Martinez concluded.

I certainly don’t agree with everything they say or portray but I do understand they have to provoke to make their hitherto business model sustainable. I choose and have my own reasons for positive of negative opinions on riders and engage when someone disagrees on those, not interested in engaging on other reasons. - it is too simple to base improvement on points alone. Quick-Step lost a lot of points but might gain more wins and are shifting their focus. - All very sad. But you seem to be backing the journalists in generally demonising Tadej and canonising Jonas. This article is interesting though, and suggests Jonas is making very good financial decisions, acquiring luxury homes that he and his family are enjoying living in, and staying near family (also now in luxury homes) who can help with the kids. Sounds like a great lifestyle, and not a basis for critising Pog's decisions.Hills3311-01-2026
