Bad news for Nairo Quintana, Movistar Team and Colombian cycling as it has been announced that the veteran rider of the Spanish team will not participate in the next Tour of the Alps due to a rupture of the anterior sternoclavicular ligament in his right arm.
Quintana started the season at the Tour Colombia. Then, he caught coronavirus, which meant that his first race in Europe could not be what he had hoped for. Later, he raced the Volta a Catalunya. There he crashed twice, the last one in the final stage that caused his abandonment, and now he is recovering from this injury. So, Nairo has very few kilometers in his legs, and it remains to be seen if he will be Movistar's leader in the Giro d'Italia, as planned.
"Quintana continues from this week his recovery in Colombia, after the fall suffered in the recent Volta a Catalunya. The Movistar Team rider suffers a practically complete rupture of the anterior sternoclavicular ligament in his right arm," reads the official statement from the Spanish team.
"With a view to ensuring a full recovery, Nairo will not compete in his next scheduled event, the Tour of the Alps. His subsequent schedule will be communicated in the near future," concludes Movistar Team.
