2024 Tour de France stage 15 GC Update: Tadej Pogacar builds seemingly unassailable lead over Vingegaard & Evenepoel

It was said often ahead of stage 15 that whoever wins atop Plateau de Beille wins the 2024 Tour de France. Well, after another enthralling day of action on Bastille Day, Tadej Pogacar secured his 3rd stage win of this race and gained massively on the likes of Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel.

After Vingegaard had attacked with just over 10km to go, the two historic rivals were one and two on the road. With the Dane unable to distance Pogacar however, the Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader was forced to ask his rival for a turn with just over 5km to go. Instead of doing a pull, Pogacar decided to launch a brutal attack, leaving Vingegaard in his dust and eventually gaining more than a minute by the time he crossed the line, with third on the road Evenepoel over two and a half minutes down.

What all that means for the general classification, is that Pogacar now holds a monster advantage of 3:09 over his main rival Vingegaard with Evenepoel's chances of breaking into that duo now slim at 5:19 down. A positive for the Belgian however, is that his podium position has been further strengthened, now nearly six minutes clear of 4th placed Joao Almeida.

Evenepoel's Soudal - Quick-Step teammate, Mikel Landa is now 5th, swapping positions with his compatriot Carlos Rodriguez. Adam Yates at 13:38 is the third UAE Team Emirates rider in the top 7, with Giulio Ciccone and Derek Gee 8th and 9th respectively, before Santiago Buitrago rises two places to complete the top 10.
