To put Mathieu van der Poels "eye watering" 33:52 10k and Tony Martins "impressive" 1:24 1/2 marathon in perspective: 10 k world record: 26:24 1/2 marathon world record: 56:42 Enough said.23-11-2025 21:06

But still: I was a far better bike rider than a runner. The point is that 30:59 at 10k is a shitty time compared to good amateur runners. In other words, for it to have been an "impressive time" and worthy of a story, Tony Martin half marathon time should have been below 1:05.23-11-2025 20:22

None what so ever. Not even a single UCI-point (except from cyclocross ranking).23-11-2025 20:06

I stopped cycling in 1999 and started running. Did 30:59 (10 km not officially measured distance); 31:17 (10 km officially measured distance); 31:19 (10 km officially measured distance) in 2002. 30:59 10 km in a local fun run was even enough to win it. Neither was 31:17 in another local fun run. And that's even in a country with a very low international level in long-distance running. At national championships in countries with a reasonable level, such times will not even get you a top 30 ranking. In running nations, you will not even be allowed to compete in championships if this was your level. But as it appears, this is also a level that can be achieved by an average cyclist with just over two years of training.23-11-2025 10:26

Pardon my French; but 1:24 on a half marathon is shit. There is no story at all; so goes with Mathieu van der Poels sub 33 min 10 km, and Armstrongs sub 3 hour Marathon. For each of them individually, it is a victory. Good for them, I hope they enjoy the experience and the result. But when they are published and disseminated as news, it is embarrassing. Even Tom Domoulin sub 2:30 Marathon is no where near interesting. In fact, even mediocre cyclists have been under 31 minutes on a 10 km, under 1:15 on a half marathon and under 2:25 on a marathon in their autumn. So journalists: try to consider whether there is a story at all and check your facts. It is cringe-worthy shameful to expose such great bike riders in their complete incompetence as runners.21-11-2025 21:33

Most discusting and unworthy victory of a grand tour I have ever seen. Ew! Every rider worked against Demi Vollering as if they were paid to do it.18-08-2024 19:34
