- Vegni, don't worry, many say those things to have something controversial to say. Strade Bianche is a beautiful race (for me "the most") very particular, very special. Some talented riders ( Pidcock, Pogi) adore it. And if Strade Bianche is dangerous, what about Paris-Roubaix? is lethal?
- I'm sure we have other top riders Mr M. All I was saying that it is a spectacle to watch this pair go head to head in races and grand tours. You always seem to want make more of what is said as though what is said isn't good enough and then off you go into a long discourse telling us about your extended thoughts on the subject?
- Yes, you're right. Il Lombardia actually is a monument for climbers. On paper, it should suit Jonas.
- What are you talking about? Of course it’s still interesting when neither is there. I didn’t say anything to contradict that. Weird and baseless accusation and statement. I said Grand Tour GC would be less interesting with only one of them. They perform head and shoulders above the rest but can beat other. If only one was present then the interest in grand tour GC is less since they’d likely dominate the field. Competition is fun. If neither are there then the field is together much closer like at the Vuelta last year. GC was fun the whole way through.
I think you should assess your own attitude and assumptions when communicating with others ;)
- That's true, however there are hilly/mountainous one day races that Jonas doesn't compete in. Ardenes, autumn Italian races
- Has been said before if differently. The persistence is such that you have to start considering the possibility it’s the man himself, trying to attract attention when there is none ;-)
- Success in who’s eyes or according to what criteria?
- It’s still interesting when neither are there :-) You know there is always still a thing called imagination? Shame you can’t see the interest in any race if you feel it’s only about who wins or is likely to. On the one hand people enjoy knowing one or both exist, on the other hand they moan when one is partipating. I think we should be looking more at our own attitudes towards expectations from entertainment.
- It's not wrong if Jonas sticks to a plan and be as calculated as he can most of the time. While, it may seem boring, that's how they got an impulsive rider like Tadej worn out on stage 11 of TdF 2022. Of course, that also means that he didn't know how to read the room and adapt. One clear example is stage 6 of TdF 2023 where he was, in fact, riding at the front for Tadej after failing to drop him before Tadej attacked and dropped him.
- Yes, but Pogacar is considered an outlier among modern GT riders. Modern GT riders mostly focus on stage races.
