Wout Van Aert had a fairly eventful season with a challenging spring programme that converted into two Grand Tour participations and finishing the season in Canda. And all of that despite starting his preparation from zero after a knee injury at the 2024 Vuelta a Espana. As the Belgian definitely plans to ride some cyclocross rounds again this winter, there was not much time to waste with going on holidays.
With his wife Sarah De Bie (30), the couple went sightseeing in Italy's picturesque capital Rome. "Mom and dad getaway," Van Aert wrote on Instagram above a photo of him and Sarah De Bie in front of the Palatine Hill in Rome, which suggests that it was a trip without their two children Georges and Jerome.
On September 20th, Van Aert rode his final race of a long season, in which he won twice. His first triumph came during the exciting gravel stage of the Giro d'Italia, passing some of the most iconic segments of Strade Bianche. Later in the race, Van Aert played a crucial role in Simon Yates' GC coup over Colle delle Finestre.
That Van Aert doesn't like winning small is evident from his second victory. The Belgian was out of picture for most of the Tour de France. But on the race's last day with innovated Champs-Élysées stage over Montmartre, Van Aert became the only man to drop Tadej Pogacar in the 2025 edition and eventually won the stage. Furthermore, Van Aert performed formidably at the Classics, but ended up with an upsetting collection of 2nd (Brabantse Pijl and Dwars door Vlaanderen) and 4th (Paris-Roubaix, Tour of Flanders and Amstel Gold Race) places.
