- Fights do it all the time. Sounds like sour grapes. Stop the petty nonsense
- shocking, a Portuguese person stating a Portuguese rider is better than a Belgian. he might be, but still a funny premise to an article.
- amen. there is no greater champion at targeting races than PFP. her style is viciously effective.
- I don’t think PFP avoids discussing the issue, because I don’t think she believes she did anything wrong. And she didn’t. this is a matter between herself, her doctors and her team.
everyone seems to forget it is a 2 part equation - WATTS/KG.
Why is everyone focused only on the KG and not the watts?
Because yes, Demi and Marlen might be “bigger ladies”, thus should have more watts to offset the KG.
Tadej is bigger than Jonas, so more KG, but then more watts too.
and I put “bigger” in quotes. Kasia actually weighs less than PFP, so why didn’t she win? I’m pretty sure Sarah Gigante wins less than PFP, why didn’t she win? And by height/weight, Demi is 3” taller but only 9 lbs heavier. That puts her as a smaller rider by proportions than PFP, which again could be made up in power. and at “normal weight”, PFP is bigger than Demi.
If it is all about the KG then the lightest rider would always win.
But it isn’t. Demi’s tactics were horrific. PFP always had riders up the road, she avoided crashes and she did a perfect recon of her winning stage. but no one wants to talk about any of that.
- Great! Does it mean that he will go for MTB Championships? That would be amazing!
- Well, lets see if Joao going to win his first 3 weeks grand tour. Good luck to him
- The real issue is why is everyone across all sports in this younger generation of fans so quick to claim goathood upon various athletes? The arguments are by definition all moot until a athletes career is over or winding down near an end when a clear picture of all accomplishments can be assesed.Part egoistic my generation is greater than yours mixed with utter boredom and cant appreciate the distilled present moment is likely at play here for the most part.Wheres the lie?
- I think a lot of them were busy screaming about other things that probably had as much effect. BUT, did you ever see Froome losing almost 10% of his normal riding weight? Has he gotten fatter since? AND, is it not maybe exactly this which explains why he’s never been able to perform since, perhaps if he’d adapt his diet a little towards what the others are doing these days, he’d find back a little power?
- You win the Tour with Asthma because you compensate for the disorder with something else. You can win uphill due to weight loss (hence why people wanted to use diuretics) without seeing the potential dangers and consequences (which may only appear much later). Why do you think sport makes more and more effort to follow and check athletes for more and more (potential) issues as the professionalism pushes them further and further into trying more and more extreme methods, the long-term outcomes of which always being unknown initially) From boxing to rugby to football to cycling, each activity has more and more particulars to keep an eye on
- We draw A line, just as we’ve had to for plenty of other things like diuretics, erythropoietin.
I note that Pauline completely avoids discussing the main issue the importance of which more and more of the others now seem to be starting to understand. Also, if you have looked at the TCA work, it is obvious this was already a sensitive issue before this Tour which is why the others were already questioning the method before her success.
