Wout van Aert ready for anything ahead of World Cup Benidorm: "I expect an intense battle"

Wout van Aert, the star rider for Team Visma | Lease a Bike, is set to compete in the World Cup Benidorm later today. Speaking to Wielerflits ahead of the race, Van Aert shared his thoughts on the course and the race's significance.
"It is a fast lap, and it is worth riding around again. It is a conscious choice to ride the cross bike a little longer," he explained, highlighting his decision to extend his cyclocross campaign.
Van Aert anticipates another thrilling contest, predicting a fierce battle on the fast-paced circuit. "I expect another exciting final. The course is fast, maybe even faster than in the previous editions. I expect an intense battle," he said.
The prospect of the cyclocross world championships being held in Benidorm also caught Van Aert's attention. Reflecting on the possibility, he remarked: "It is something very positive that a Spanish organization wants to organize a World Championships. We will remain far too close to Belgium in the coming years. So it would be a nice change. Although I have to say that the course could offer a bit more for a World Championships."

- Merlier with Bert leading him out against Milan and his whole sprint train will be such a fun competition. I think Merlier has an edge as he’s shown himself to be incredibly adaptable to the race situation, surf wheels, and improvise. For Milan, if his train nails it, he’s the best. If they don’t, Merlier takes the W. I still don’t get why Alpecin neglected Merlier in favor of Philipsen in ‘21.
