Michael Vanthourenhout wins chaotic Val di Sole race, as van der Poel fails to perform and Iserbyt crashes out

Michael Vanthourenhout has won the CX World Cup Val di Sole. He established a gap for himself in the third lap which he maintained to secure his fifth win of the season.

Kevin Kuhn had a nice start, but it didn’t take Michael Vanthourenhout much long to establish himself in the lead. Eli Iserbyt, Niels Vandeputte and Laurens Sweeck joined the duo at the front. It was not Mathieu van der Poel’s day as he struggled to join the front group.

Vanthourenhout managed to drop the group and establish a considerable gap for himself in the third lap. Vandeputte encountered a flat tire, whereas Iserbyt faced a mechanical problem in the fourth lap. However, it was not over for Iserbyt, soon he crashed, after which he decided to abandon the race.

Michael Vanthourenhout crossed the finish line first and celebrated his fifth victory of the season. Niels Vandeputte satisfied himself with silver. Kevin Kuhn finished third.
