"I trusted my form of the last few weeks" - Fem van Empel puts to bed injury concerns with emphatic victory in Gavere

For the 7th time this winter, cyclocross world champion Fem van Empel crossed the line with her arms aloft in celebration this Boxing Day, dominating a world class field of starters at the World Cup in Gavere.
Although only Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado was absent from the world leaders, the likes of Lucinda Brand, Puck Pieterse, Blanka Kata Vas and Zoe Backstedt couldn't live with a rampant Van Empel performing somewhere near her very best. After attacking clear solo on lap 2, the Visma star wasn't seen again easing to a clear victory as Brand and Pieterse completed the podium.
"This feels really good. I haven't been able to do much the past few days, but I'm super happy with this victory on this beautiful course," Van Empel reflected in her immediate post-race interview, putting to bed some recent injury concerns. "I trusted my form of the last few weeks and there was nothing wrong with that. So there was no reason to panic. My knee pain was not completely gone, but it was good enough to start. And hopefully my knee will recover completely now."

- That’s not entirely true. Every person follows their own development path and peaks differently. Remco and Primoz had hardly started cycling before elite level. Jonas was pretty much under the radzr until he unexpectedly had to take over responsibility at JV. Some guys only get real good in their thirties others have peaked mid-twenties. You can’t tell in advance how and upto what level they will progress, obviously his career might not have MVDPs length but nothing says he could not end up doing a few seasons at his level.Mistermaumau25-12-2024
