Jan Christen will ride for Hagens Berman Axeon in 2023 before moving to the UAE Emirates next year.
“I am delighted to join Axeon to race with riders from other countries and make new friends,” said Christen. He continues, “For me, the Hagens Berman Axeon is the best place to develop and gain the experience I will need in the future. I can't wait to start the season.”
He can be considered an all-rounder with achievements in every discipline. His noticeable achievements include Junior Mountain Bike Vice World Champion, European Junior Road Champion, and a 4-time Swiss national champion in the individual time trial. In addition, Jan won the general classification at the 2022 Nations Cup Tour du Pays du Vaud and concluded the road season with a fourth position in the Individual time trial at the Junior World Championships in Wollongong, Australia.
Director Axel Merckx is very excited to work with the youngster. Having already seen his performance, he has high hopes for the Swiss rider. “I am thrilled to have Jan in the team because he is a great talent who comes from Tadej Pogačar's youth team. I saw him win the Cyclo-cross World Championships earlier this year, and I really liked his temperament and the way he rides. He caught my eye right away, and I quickly got in touch with him. In the end, I'm happy that he decided to come racing with us,” concluded Merckx.
