Clara Honsinger: "The World Championship is a very important race, my goal is a medal"

For the third consecutive year, Clara Honsinger won the CX USA National Championships. Now she has set her sights on World Championships.

Brand new champion didn't shy away from revealing her ambitions of becoming the World champion. "The course in Hoogerheide is really iconic. I am definitely building towards that race. My goal is a medal. The World Championship is a very important race, and I always want to perform well there,” Honsinger told wielerflits. She continues, "Cyclocross is such a European sport, especially Dutch and Belgian, and then to be able to represent a totally different continent is great.”

In contrast to last year, she plans to compete only in World Cup races and others that are important. "In previous years, I rode a lot of races in that period, which made me burn myself out a bit. This year, I'm taking a different approach and focusing mainly on the World Cup races," she told VeloNews.

Her focus for December will be World Cup Gavere, but she knows getting a victory will not be easy. “It is interesting to see how the level among women has grown so exponentially. Where the real talent used to be in the top 7 or top 8, it is now in the entire top 15. Before, I wouldn't consider the eighth place a good result, but now I would consider that a good day," concluded Honsinger.
