Ceylin Alvarado third in tough cross in Gavere - "I felt good but halfway through the cross I hit the wall"

Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado competed for victory in the Gavere World Cup for a long time. In the end, however, she had to settle for third place, behind Fem van Empel and winner Puck Pieterse. She told her story in the flash interview afterwards.

"I think I started the cross quite well," Alvarado said. "I felt good, but halfway through the cross I hit the wall. I had to ride at my own pace, because I was very tired. I made a few mistakes, after which Fem passed me. I tried to keep up with the pace, but I was just too tired. That's a shame of course, I had hoped to get second place. But what I said: it was just over. I fought for what I was worth, but Fem was just a bit stronger than me in the end."

The victory therefore went to Puck Pieterse, with whom Alvarado initially dueled. "Puck was just very strong today. I tried to go along, but in the end I had to let her go. I think I went a little over my limits somewhere. I had to recover from that."

It was a 'very tough' cross in Gavere, according to Alvarado. "You could continue cycling, but at five kilometers per hour. There was also a lot of running. It was very hard for the legs."
