Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado had to settle for second place in the Superprestige Overijse. Only the flying Fem van Empel, who took minute into all of her opponents crossed the line ahead of Alvarado.
Is the
Fenix-Deceuninck rider satisfied? "Yes, I think so. I got the most out of it," she said in the flash interview afterwards, acknowledging her superior on the day in the Jumbo-Visma cyclist.
"I ended up in second place, but I did my best to get the best possible result. We succeeded, so I can be satisfied," said Alvarado, who saw Van Empel open a big gap in the first lap. "I was cursing on my bike. I was way too far, I was in a very bad position. It was only after three quarters of a lap that I was in the lead, and then she was already gone. I made another attempt, but the bird had started flying. That was a shame of course."
Van Empel was clearly not up to par today. Will Alvarado have to wait for the crosses that the world champion skips before she can make her move? "Of course there is an opportunity there. Now it is, but of course she stands out. If she is not there, it is up to us to set the pace. That will also work. As long as the feeling is good and the mind is also good, then everything will be fine."
