When Lorenzo Fortunato rode to a surprise stage win atop Monte Zoncolan on his debut Grand Tour in 2021, it's fair to say not much was known of him. Now as he plans to return to the Giro d'Italia off the back of two successive top 20 finishes at the race, he will do so as a marked man.
Currently riding for EOLO-Kometa, Fortunato revealed his plans for the upcoming campaign in a discussion with his team's official media. "I'll ride the Ruta del Sol first and then Gran Camino," he explains. " I'm doing the Trofeo Laigueglia and Tirreno-Adriatico, but the big goal will ultimately be the Giro d'Italia . I want to start strong right away and go for victories."
As mentioned Fortunato first came to the attention of the wider cycling world with his stunning win on stage 14 of the 2021 Giro. 2022 wasn't the year the 26-year-old Italian had hoped for however, something he is planning to improve upon this time around. "Last year was not such a good season due to bad luck, but now I want to come back and win."
