"We'll try to make the difference" - Tadej Pogacar eyeing decisive move on stage 2 of Volta a Catalunya 2024

After narrowly missing out on the stage win in yesterday's opening to the 2024 Volta a Catalunya, Tadej Pogacar returns for stage 2 with another great chance for victory.

"It was a really nice stage. We had a great plan, great teamwork but sadly, Jay Vine didn't feel too good and we lost one rider too early," Pogacar recalls of the opening day's racing in conversation with Eurosport pre-stage 2. "We managed to take second place. It was a great opportunity for Nick Schultz to take the win with a great tactical play. They really made it work and made it happen."

"For me, the finish line was just a few metres too short," Pogacar adds. "I was relying too much on others but everybody was waiting for us to do the final move and when Schultz got a gap there was hesitation from everybody."

With a summit finish on stage 2 atop Vallter 2000, Pogacar heads into the stage as the man to beat. "We will see. Israel - Premier Tech have the jersey so let's hope they honour the jersey and control things. On the final climb we can see what we'll do and how strong the guys are. We'll try to make the difference."
