"We can fight to win the Tour" - Mikel Landa praises Soudal - Quick-Step's team around Remco Evenepoel

After moving to Soudal - Quick-Step over the recent off-season, Mikel Landa has already been making a positive impression, including a second-placed finish at the Volta a Catalunya behind Tadej Pogacar.

The main reason Landa was signed however, was to bolster the team's climbing ranks and support Remco Evenepoel as the Belgian looks towards the Tour de France for the first time in his career. "I am very motivated by the Tour. I think this team is growing and creating a great group around Evenepoel," the Spaniard tells his team optimistically. "We can fight to win the Tour or for a podium and that motivates me a lot."

Having ridden for a number of the peloton's top teams during his career, Landa admits he's quickly been made to feel at home with Soudal - Quick-Step. "The riders have given me a warm welcome and I have felt part of the group very quickly," Landa says warmly. "That always helps when you are new."

More than just a super domestique for Evenepoel, Landa also has personal aims and objectives for the remainder of 2024. "I would like to win a stage. It is a long time without winning one. Also in the Vuelta a Espana I would like to do well and have a good overall," he concludes. "I want to get a yellow jersey for Remco and if I can choose a red one from the Vuelta, that would be good."
