"We are focusing on tomorrow, but we need to stay on the bike" - Remco Evenepoel at the start of stage 3 of the Volta ao Algarve

Remco Evenepoel starts stage 3 of the Volta ao Algarve in second place of the overall classification. Not the spot most imagined the Belgian to be after the Alto da Fóia, but the Belgian looks to climb up the standings in the upcoming time-trial.

"Very good everyone was ready. I think we were only beat by a guy that was faster than me at the line. Congrats to Martínez and Bora," Evenepoel told the microphone of Portuguese Cycling Magazine this morning at the start of the stage. "I think we did what we had to do, control the race and take responsibility. I finished second we have to be happy."

The Belgian sprinted to second and was beaten by Daniel Martínez, however dropped several of his main rivals that can match him in the time-trial. In the race for the yellow jersey, the Soudal - Quick-Step rider remains in pole position.

"We are focusing on tomorrow, but we need to stay on the bike and stay out of trouble," he says of today's stage which will have a tricky finale for the sprinters. "Normally it should be a sprint with very strong sprinter teams so everything should be under control. For us today it's all about arriving safe at the finish line in Tavira, and then all-in on tomorrow's TT."
