Warren Barguil attempts to ride Amstel Gold Race with a broken rib but was forced to leave the race early

Often very successful at the Ardennes, Warren Barguil revealed that he has taken on the Amstel Gold Race with a broken rib. The injury eventually forced the 32-year-old to retire from the race after three hours in the saddle. His next start at the La Flèche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege is very unlikely, and even if the Frenchman takes off to the races, he won't be able to play any major role.

"Took the start of the Amstel with a broken rib to see if it would pass. In the end, it was not possible to force it. So much disappointment after 3 weeks at altitude...," wrote the Team dsm-firmenich PostNL rider on his Strava account.
